Parents

There are many ways for parents to gain an understanding of their child’s school experience and to support that experience.

The guides contact parents of new students within a few weeks of the start of school to discuss the child’s transition into the classroom.

Conferences with the child’s guide are recommended. For working parents, evening conferences are scheduled once in the fall and once in the spring. Telephone conferences are available for those parents who cannot come to the school.

After November 1 of each year, parents are invited to schedule a thirty minute morning observation in their child’s classroom to observe their child working and interacting in his daily environment. Observation by parents of new, younger students may be postponed until January, at the discretion of the guide.

The Winter Celebration and Parents' Education Evenings provide parents additional opportunities to be involved in their child's school experience.

Volunteer opportunities include acting as Room Parent, doing classroom laundry, sewing projects, designing and directing a class art activity, sharing a talent or knowledge with the children through a classroom presentation, working in the courtyards, and reading with the older students.

The Parents’ Club serves as both a fundraising and social branch of the school. The Parents’ Club hosts events such as the annual Fall Picnic and the spring International Festival, a celebration of cultural diversity. The Parents’ Club also sponsors fundraisers. The funds that have been raised have made visible differences and improvements to the school.
